Now let’s focus on this month’s most important advances in technology.  We’ll begin with a key breakthrough in information technology. 

Today’s computers are based on semiconductor transistors.  The easiest way to increase computing power is to create smaller transistors so larger numbers of them can be squeezed onto integrated circuits. 

Until now, progress has been governed by Moore’s Law, which states that the number of transistors that can fit on an integrated circuit will double every 18 to 24 months due to scaling.  But as.....
