Does America Really Need Manufacturing?

Nearly every product company believes its long-term success depends on innovation.  However, executives who view manufacturing mainly as a cost center have given “short shrift” to the impact that off-shoring may have on their company’s capacity to innovate. 

In fact, few consider manufacturing to be part of a company’s “innovation system” at all.  The result has been an exodus of manufacturing from the United States.
